International Vision Expo and British Contact Lens Association Sign Partnership Agreement

October 02, 2013

Norwalk, CT (October 2, 2013) – International Vision Expo & Conference and the British Contact Lens Association (BCLA) today announced they have entered into a multi-year, content exchange agreement to create a two-day “Global Contact Lens Forum.” The new partnership follows months of conversations aimed at expanding and improving continuing education offerings at their respective conferences. The first program will be available at International Vision Expo East in New York, March 26 and 27, 2014, providing a platform for delivering the latest scientific content and business strategies related to contact lenses. The BCLA will host the second forum in Birmingham, England in June.

The agreement allows International Vision Expo to broaden its contact lens offerings and further solidify its position as a world-class content provider. The Vision Expo Conference Advisory Board will have the opportunity to jointly develop innovative, scientific-based courses with the BCLA, a recognized industry leader committed to improving education on contact lenses and the anterior eye.

"We’re proud to collaborate with the BCLA on this entirely new, stand-alone contact lens program,” said Kirk Smick, OD, FAAO, chairman of International Vision Expo’s Conference Advisory Board. “The BCLA is the most respected contact lens meeting on the globe and Vision Expo is leading the field in practice management trends and business strategies. It’s the perfect collision of scientific education and business content.”

The new partnership adds value for eyecare providers, as noted by Nicholas Rumney, MScO, FCO, FAAO, conference programme co-coordinator for the BCLA. “Successful practice is not about running a business against a clinical program or a clinical program to the detriment of a business. You need both to flourish. It’s critical to be able to teach eyecare practitioners how to take their new-found knowledge and put it into practice. Vision Expo offers a model of excellence and its business solutions are an exact fit.”

Smick agreed, adding that, “It all has to do with building deliverable outcomes that benefit the practitioners attending and, ultimately, their patients. Whatever you pick up at our conference can be put into practice the very next day. It feeds right back to your patients. This forum is based on that model and promises to be the global showcase for the best scientific and business content.”

Online registration for the Global Contact Lens Forum will open in conjunction with International Vision Expo East in late November. To learn more about International Vision Expo & Conference, visit

About the BCLA

The British Contact Lens Association (BCLA) is an educational and scientific membership organisation. We are committed to developing and maintaining channels of communication between research scientists, manufacturers, industry personnel, optometrists, dispensing opticians, ophthalmologists and the public.

The BCLA came into existence more than 30 years ago when four of the major bodies in the UK concerned with the then relatively specialised practice of contact lenses merged. The Association has grown from just a handful of members to more than 2,000 and now holds a number of events throughout the year, such as the highly regarded Pioneers Conference and annual Clinical Conference and Exhibition, which each year attracts around 1,000 UK and international delegates.
